City of Gold
Eirik's video game debut began back in 2012 with the Xbox Live Arcade smash hit, Spelunky. Smashing records, the game's revitalization on console became an instant classic, along with the soundtrack. Eirik's compositional skills are on full display here. Jazz-like motifs are splattered throughout the charming and swaying tunes. Coaxing you deeper under the surface, Eirik's wonderful use of piano and leading trumpet will carry you down rock faces and spit you out alongside chiptune rock ballads. Whether it's through the wonderfully peaceful shop tune breaks or the frantically pulsing beats, one thing is for sure: Eirik will take you on a musical journey through the depths of the world's most dangerous caves.
Game Show
The simplistic design choice in having the original soundtrack art printed on the chipboard jacket adds character to Brian Carmody's already awesome design. The subtle shading done to the original soundtrack design adds a wonderful nuance to the cartoon-like characters we have come to love from the game's world.
Wrath of Yama
Fangamer has been absolutely crushing it with vinyl releases lately, and this one was definitely a surprise. The pressing here is truly outstanding, with little to no surface noise at all. The mastering on this album leaves Eirik's music open to really sound incredible! Not to mention, the vinyl color here is fantastic and suits this game wonderfully. As a distributor of video game merchandise, Fangamer absolutely killed it in 2018 with their vinyl releases and I can't wait to see what they come up with in 2019.
