Transistor by Darren Korb
Sparkle and shine, light the inside
The Spine
Cascade through the underbelly slums, fight your way into the neon fueled city-scape of Cloudbank, and escape the tyrannical grip of the Process with Transistor by Darren Korb. Pressed on limited edition “Coke-Bottle Clear” vinyl by Supergiant Games in collaboration with Cleveland-based Gotta Groove Records comes Transistor. The wonderful soundtrack to Red’s adventures can now grace your turntable in all of its analogue glory! Transistor is a divine and haunting overture of to a world on the brink of calamity. With orchestrations by the ever-talented Darren Korb, accompanied by soul-aching vibratos by Ashley Barrett, this album is sure to stick with you for a long time to come. With only a neon sword in hand, will you be left trapped inside its grooves before the end?
We All Become
Darren Korb’s eclectic and groundbreaking work on Bastion established him as a heavyweight in the game music scene back in 2011 with Supergiant Games’ breakthrough game and instant cult classic. Darren and his partner in crime Ashley team up again to deliver yet another amazing performance with Transistor. A stark and chilling contrast thematically from their previous work, Transistor hits all the right marks. This release encapsulates the turmoil and anguish the people of Cloudbank are experiencing at the crux of societal collapse, launching them into a dystopian rule from tyrannical robotic overlords.
The highlight of this album is, without a doubt, Ashley Barrett’s vocals. Piercing through the electronic drones and rhythmic drumming, Ashley's voice is a beacon of hope that enraptures the listener and frees them from a mechanized hold. Ethereal and absolutely stunning, the soundtrack to Transistor is, in my opinion, one of the best soundtracks in modern gaming, and will go down as one of the best in this historic rise of indie games. Darren Korb and company have completely blown me away, and I know they will mesmerize you as well!
Paper Boats
Upon opening the box that arrived at my doorstep, I was instantly blown away by the overall presentation of this release. The passion and love that went into this vinyl package is apparent, from Jen Zee’s breathtaking outside cover to ever-meticulously pressed grooves. The inner label etchings with quotes from the game absolutely prove to me that Supergiant Games has a lot of pride for their work. This release feels like a piece of art, from the design all the way up to the execution from Gotta Groove. Transitor is a must-have for any fan of the game!
I want to extend a loving and personal thanks to the crew over at Supergiant Games for taking the time to personally sign my copy of this vinyl, and for providing digital Bandcamp codes to give out to my readers. It means more than anything I could put into words. Your love and dedication to your fan base is unparalleled. Keep doing what you do to and continue to enrich the lives around you!
